Between Howls are violinist Ren Howl & guitarist Nick Howl. The Duluth Minnesota-based husband/wife duo perform a dynamic blend of folk, rock & soul inspired by artists past and present. They recently released their first full-length LP “Cabin Fever” and are performing cross-country throughout 2025 to support.

The Howl’s met in college at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. They first crossed paths as members of the campus jazz ensemble. After a fateful late night jam, the two began performing publicly in the winter of 2018 as Cooper & Muska. Between 2018 and March of 2020 they performed over 200 shows together in the Duluth/Superior area.

In June of 2021 the Howl’s relocated to Southern California and spent three years based out west. While in Orange County/LA they recorded two albums with the rock group One Less Guest and collaborated, performed and recorded with numerous artists both in music and film. In July 2024 Nick & Ren made the leap to doing music full-time. They often credit the experiences and friends they made in California with helping inspire them to make this transition.

While not performing with the duo, Ren is the violinist/backing vocalist for Nashville-based country/soul artist Kashus Culpepper. In spring of 2025 Ren joined Kashus on a tour opening for Leon Bridges- the tour also included a Day 2 performance at the Stagecoach Music Festival in Coachella Valley, California.

The Howl’s currently live in a cabin in the woods of Northern Wisconsin and enjoy the great outdoors when they aren’t on the road touring out of their 1999 big blue conversion van.
